Subject: Self-reflection on the LRA essay
This memo discusses the evaluation of the writing and format of my LRA (Lab Report Analysis) essay on bacterial contamination. I will evaluate my writing format as well as discuss my strengths and weaknesses based on the feedback received from my peers and examples from my classmates and their outlines.
A strength of mine was that I formatted my essay well and based it on the way I structured my outline by beginning with an introduction that included an explanation to the purpose of my essay and my thesis statement. I then structured the rest of my essay on the topics I wrote about that included separate summaries of the lab reports, a breakdown on each of the three lab report’s titles, abstracts, introductions, materials and methods, results, discussions, conclusions, acknowledgements, and their references as well as statements on what the writers should have included to help improve their reports.
I made sure to include all the necessary objects in my essay but there are a few things I needed to improve on. Based on feedback on my original outline before working on the essay I was advised to stay away from mentioning the content of the reports. I originally wrote my essay analyzing the content rather than the formats. I then took note of the advice in class when you mentioned assuming the reader already read the lab reports and knew the contents of them. I reevaluated my writing and rewrote my outline and my essay so I can meet the essay requirements properly. Also, I looked at my classmates’ drafts and read the feedback you gave to them and made sure to include a cover page and properly write my thesis.
Compared to my last assignment where I mentioned struggling with the length of my essay contents I was able to include lots of details in this essay and was able to meet the required length. I made sure to assess the lab report contents based on the many questions given in the lab report checklist and with that I organized my analysis essay easily.
Based on the feedback I received from my outline and help given in class as well as my personal reflections I am able to take into account to focus on and make sure that I fully understand what the essay requirements are and what is being asked from me in my assignment.
